An ExBox - hands down! I am probably one of the few girls out there who doesn’t box up every little card, movie ticket, concert ticket, stuffed animal, t-shirts or attempt at a love note from my ex-boyfriend and put it somewhere in the back of my closet behind my winter clothes. As soon as the break up is over with and it comes time for the your stuff/my stuff exchange - give EVERYTHING back and what you find 2 months later, just throw it away. Personally, I just don’t see the need to hold on to everything that has to do with your old relationship along all 5,000 pictures of the two of you for a few reasons. Say you tried to do the “friend” thing with your ex and that doesn’t work out for whatever reason, when you find the dreaded ExBox, you’ll be reminded of the friend you lost or all the happy times you to had and you’ll have a pretty crappy rest of the day. If the breakup was bad, as soon as you come close to that box you’ll remember how much time you wasted in that relationship and hate the fact that you two ever dated in the first place - yet another bad day. Say you’ve finally moved on and you’ve got a new boyfriend (Mr. Wonderful) and the two of you are straightening up one day and he comes across your ExBox (or even worse, you come across his) and the reminiscing starts you and Mr. Wonderful may end up in a little argument - and this could be a very bad day once “the why are you still holding on to all that crap?” conversation starts. So once a breakup is done and over with, there really is no need to go out, buy yourself a new pair of shoes and then fill the box with everything your ex ever gave you. I have nothing against retail therapy, just make sure that you throw the box away when you get home.

I have an ExBox with one of my three exboyfriends. But we had a generally nice breakup and there is no lingering bitterness, so when I come across the box it’s just like coming across an old yearbook. Nothing too special… but now that I think of what is in the box, it can probably be tossed. There are a few Chick-Fil-A cows in there, some prom memorabilia and some notes. So next time I’m home (I left it at my parents!) I will empty it out and throw away what is no longer needed!
But what do I do with the pretty diamond heart necklace?!?!?
